I have catalogued nearly books in the past couple of weeks and with few exceptions, the iPhone barcode scanner works well. On those occasions when it doesn't, keying in the ISBN works. In very few instances where neither finds the title, I have used the Good Reads iPhone app to scan a cover - which by the way is excellent - and then from the book details I can get the ISBN and copy and paste into app scanner and add the book.
I would like to be able to specify a back up option as well as veiw shelves for a particular genre or auther but am otherwised pleased. Worth the price if you have alot of books. I see requests to be able to view your collection in the cloud; you can publish your collection to an ftp or http site.
But I have found that for me, the simplest is to export the file in the csv format and then import into your Good Reads account if you have one then you have the best of both worlds. Librarian Pro has no limits whatsoever. I think I've officially been converted… so long, Delicious. It's been fun. Beautiful, incredibly user-friendly interface. Does everything that other home inventory apps do and then some. I don't feel any need at all to search for an alternative to compare to like I have before with other apps.
I believe I've reached the end of the road here after finding this one and the view is breathtaking. Highly, highly recommended. I have a modest personal Library of about a books, and have successfully added about to Librarian Pro in the last two weeks time permitting.
It is an excellent system, both simple to use with a simple yet attractive interface and detailed in the number of fields that you could use to hold book information. I had used a similar program called Library Hunter a few years ago, so was pleasantly surprised to see a very similar but commercially viable program. I still haven't tried to import the database from the old Library Hunter program that I used. I hope it will work. I certainly will "buy" this program when the trial period is over.
After I add all the books I will try to add all sorts of things around the house to the Library. Thanks for mentioning Delicious Library! I really think Delicious Library is worth the cash and worth you checking out. It really sets a standard as far as function and use go for a Mac application and you should miss this gem. I have both Calibre and Alfa installed.
I only use Calibre for its readers since Alfa doesn't have any integrated. For me the biggest difference between the programs is how they handle files. I didn't like Calibre as a manager because it required the files to be copied into its own folder structure. If I didn't use Calibre to access my files, I could no longer easily navigate my files at all. I only wanted a program that would link to my files from their current location and let me view them in a nice gui with detailed searchable information about them.
This is exactly how Alfa functions. Khiya Me too. I think you may use any Caliber alternative, but having Calibre is also a must if you are book collector like me :. JD Ashwin KooBits is for kids! I would recommend FBReader and uBook. They support multiple DRM-free formats and are highly customizable. MelissaProffitt That's kinda like asking what is the best car.
